Sunday dinner at Grandma's. The sauce simmered all morning, and the meatballs were always the first thing gone.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef
0.5 lb ground pork
1 cup breadcrumbs
2 eggs
0.5 cup Parmesan, grated
28 oz crushed tomatoes
6 oz tomato paste
1 large yellow onion, diced
6 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp dried basil
1 lb spaghetti

Instructions

1

Mix beef, pork, breadcrumbs, eggs, Parmesan, and 1/3 of the garlic. Form into 1.5-inch meatballs.

2

Brown meatballs in olive oil, working in batches. Set aside.

3

Sauté onion and remaining garlic in the same pot. Add tomato paste and cook 2 minutes.

4

Add crushed tomatoes, basil, and 2 cups water. Bring to a simmer.

5

Gently add meatballs to the sauce. Cover and simmer 90 minutes.

6

Cook spaghetti until al dente. Serve meatballs and sauce over pasta.

7

Grandmother's note: the sauce is always better on the second day.
